About the Police Station:

                      Establishment Year: 1812, under the reign of Rani Gowri Lakshmi Bai of Travancore. Vaikom Police Station was one of five established in the region, which included Padmanabhapuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Mavelikkara, and Aluva.The police were known as "Daroja" during the early years, and police stations, courts, and jails operated as a single unit.In 1902, a new police station building was completed, and it began functioning there. Several prominent leaders were arrested during the Vaikom Satyagraha and held in this police station.Outposts were established at Vadayar, Brahmamangalam, and Vechoor during this period.


History of the Police Station:

                     The police station building was shifted to a newly constructed building on 23.06.1992 as per GO Rt No. 4638/91.The Circle Inspector served as the Station House Officer from 04.06.1994 until 06.04.2010, when the station was upgraded to have a Sub Inspector as the Station House Officer.Vaikom Police Station's jurisdiction covers an area of 110.93 sq km.The station is located approximately 300 meters west of the Vaikom Sree Mahadeva Temple on the southern side of the Boatjetty &ndash Padinjarenada Road.

                    The Janamithri community policing program was initiated at Vaikom Police Station on 09.03.2008, marking it as the first station in the state to implement this program.The jurisdiction is divided into 60 beats, and the program has seen success with community involvement in policing.
