The student police Cadet project is a school based youth development Program initiated by Kerala Police that trains high school and higher secondary school students to evolve as future leaders of a democratic society, by inculcating in them respect for the law, civic sense, empathy for vulnerable sections of society and resistance to social evils/ The project, jointly implemented by Police and Education Department, enables youth to explore and develop their innate capabilities, thereby empowering them to resist the growth of negative tendencies such as social intolerance,, substance abuse, deviant behavior, and anti-establishment violence, Equally, it strengthens within them commitment towards their family, the community, and the environment.
The Student Police Cadet project was launched in Kerala state on 2nd August 2010. During the academic year 2010-2011 the project was initially started at 7 schools in Kottayam district. Now this project is successfully running at 47 schools in Kottayam District. The smooth and effective running for this project, District Police chief has appointed 3 officers named District Nodal Officer, Deputy Nodal Officer and Assistant district nodal Officer. And also the help and support by Departments of Education, Fir force, Transport, Forest, Excise and Local Self-Government. In this district 94 teachers are selected to work as a community police officer and 94 Civil police officers are deployed as drill instructors.
In Kottaym Police District, Assistant Commandant I is the District Nodal Officer of Student Police Cadets. SPC project is implemented in 47 numbers of schools in Kottayam District.
